Our search for young talent continued, only this time we didn’t have to go far from home. Our most recent Dev Days was hosted at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), in Sarajevo, on May 9th and 10th. Partnering with IUS, Dev Days provided students and all those interested in IT the opportunity to work on a real web development project.

Over 25 young and ambitious IT enthusiasts with various skills and knowledge attended the two-day event. Working in teams, they were tasked with developing features for a real web application using Java technology. Assisting the teams and offering support along the way was a team of five IUS student mentors: Sara Spahić, Saira Tanković, Adem Dinarević, Amar Tirić, and Benjamin Jurić. The mentors were trained in advance by experienced Atlantbh engineers for three months prior to the event.

The majority of participants were students from IUS. However, there were also students from other universities as well who were interested in learning more about web application development. Haris Čampara, a master’s student at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sarajevo, had this to say, “The idea was excellent. I especially liked the approach (of the workshop) where we have to use our pre-existing knowledge and resourcefulness to solve the problem. I am really grateful for the opportunity, if I learned this much in just a few hours, I can only imagine how much I could learn in a few months.”

Program Coordinator of Computer Sciences and Engineering (CS) Program at IUS, Assistant Professor Kanita Karađuzović-Hadžiabdić was more than pleased with the Dev Days workshop. “The workshop provided a unique opportunity for the participants to get hands-on practical experience by working on a mini real-life project under the supervision of the experts from Atlantbh. The workshop is an example of good practice of cooperation between IT companies and universities.”

Teams presented their work to an expert panel of judges and the winning team was awarded coupons for online courses in any IT technology or field of their choice.
